The Lagos Marathon, a World Athletics Gold Label race, is Nigeria’s premier long-distance running event and one of Africa’s largest marathons. Since its revival in 2016, the 42 km race has grown rapidly, drawing elite athletes and over 100,000 participants across its marathon and 10K categories. The certified route begins at the historic National Stadium in Surulere, crosses the iconic Third Mainland Bridge, passes the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, and concludes on the Atlantic shore at Eko Atlantic—a dramatic urban finish. The flat, coastal course is fast, with a growing list of top-tier winners from Kenya and Ethiopia. While elite runners chase records and price money, the event also includes a 10K Family Race to promote wider community participation, fitness, and inclusion.
