With IAAF Silver Label status and AIMS certification, it is known for its fast, record-eligible course. Since its start in 1952, the marathon has seen multiple world-best times. The looped route begins near Takasaki Mountain, runs past Beppu’s Kankoko Port, and finishes at Ōita Municipal Athletic Stadium. Attracting elite runners mainly from Japan, the race offers a competitive and scenic experience, combining speed with coastal views.
